📅 7 February 2026 ⏱️ 7 min read ✍️ GReverse Team

Mazda makes a powerful return to the D-segment with a fully electric sedan: the Mazda 6e. Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show in January 2025, it went on sale in Europe from mid-2025. Featuring KODO Soul of Motion design, rear-wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, and LFP or NMC battery options, it serves as the electric successor to the beloved Mazda6 that was sold from 2002 to 2023. It is expected in Greece within 2026.

What Is the Mazda 6e

The Mazda 6e (known as EZ-6 in China) is a mid-size 5-door liftback sedan (D-segment) developed by Mazda in partnership with Changan Automobile on the Changan EPA1 platform. It is manufactured at the Nanjing plant in China.

It was originally unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show (April 2024) as the Mazda EZ-6 and launched in China in October 2024. For Europe, it was renamed Mazda 6e and revealed on January 10, 2025 at the Brussels Motor Show. The first shipment of 600 vehicles departed from Shanghai to Belgium in April 2025.

Important: In Europe, only the fully electric (BEV) version is offered. The range-extender (EREV) remains exclusive to the Chinese market.

KODO Design: “Soul of Motion” in a New Era

Mazda applies the KODO Soul of Motion philosophy to the electric era with the concept "Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection". Key design features:

Glowing Signature Wings

Illuminated “wings” around the grille that create a dynamic animation during charging, while also indicating the battery level.

Frameless Doors

Frameless doors and flush handles for aerodynamic cleanliness and a modern appearance.

Active Rear Spoiler

Electrically retractable rear spoiler that deploys automatically at 90 km/h (or manually at lower speeds) for stability.

Coupe Silhouette

Low roofline, short-deck coupé-style silhouette with liftback 5-door practicality. Full-width LED bar at the rear with MAZDA lettering instead of the logo.

Powertrains & Batteries

In Europe, the Mazda 6e is available in two battery versions, both with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM):

Specification68.8 kWh (LFP)80 kWh (NMC)
Battery TypeCATL-Changan LFPNMC Lithium-ion
Power190 kW (258 PS)180 kW (245 PS)
Torque320 Nm

Top Speed175 km/h
DC Fast Charging200 kW95 kW

AC Charging11 kW (3-phase)

Long Range Charging Warning: The large NMC 80 kWh battery offers 552 km of range, but its DC charging maxes out at only 95 kW (10→80% in 45 minutes). The base LFP 68.8 kWh charges at 200 kW — more than double the speed. If you frequently take long trips with charging stops, the LFP may be more convenient.

LFP vs NMC: Which Battery to Choose?

68.8 kWh LFP (Standard)

  • DC charging at 200 kW — 22 min 10→80%
  • Can be routinely charged to 100% without degradation
  • Longer cell lifespan
  • Power 258 PS (13 PS more)
  • Lower purchase price
  • 478 km WLTP range

80 kWh NMC (Long Range)

  • Maximum range 552 km WLTP
  • Ideal for long-distance highway driving
  • DC charging only 95 kW — 45 min
  • Recommended to charge up to 80% (NMC)
  • Power 245 PS
  • Higher purchase price

Our Verdict: For Greek driving conditions — primarily urban & suburban use, with occasional trips — the LFP 68.8 kWh is the best-value choice. Faster charging, less battery stress, lower cost, and the 478 km range comfortably covers Athens–Thessaloniki.

Interior & Technology

Inspired by the Japanese concept of "Ma" (the beauty of negative space), the interior combines a premium feel with cutting-edge technology:

Two trim levels in Europe: Takumi (beige or black leatherette) and Takumi Plus (premium Nappa leather in tan). Interior colors: Chestnut Brown or Egret White. In the rear, passengers have a dedicated small touchscreen for climate control and front seat adjustment.

Safety: 5-Star Euro NCAP

The Mazda 6e achieved the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP rating, as well as 5 stars in C-NCAP (90.8%).

Standard equipment includes: 9 airbags, i-Activesense ADAS (Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Emergency Lane Keeping, Rear Collision Warning, Smart Brake Support), M-pixel cameras, millimeter-wave radar, ultrasonic radar, and an Occupancy Monitoring System that detects children in the rear seat.

Jinba-Ittai: Driving Pleasure

Mazda brings the Jinba-Ittai philosophy (horse and rider as one) to the 6e — synonymous with the brand's driving experience:

Competition in Greece

ModelRangePowerDC Fast
Mazda 6e (68.8 kWh)478 km258 PS200 kW
Tesla Model 3 LR~629 km366 PS250 kW
BYD Seal~570 km313 PS150 kW
Hyundai Ioniq 6 LR~614 km229 PS240 kW
BMW i4 eDrive40~590 km340 PS205 kW

In comparison, the Mazda 6e doesn't lead in range or power, but it stands out in design, build quality, driving feel (RWD/50:50) and an expected competitive price — the price in China starts from just $19,100, which promises excellent value in Europe.

Estimated Price in Greece

Mazda has not yet announced official European prices (expected by mid 2025-2026). However, based on available data:

Estimate 68.8 kWh

~€38,000 – 42,000

Before subsidies. The LFP version is expected to be more affordable.

Estimate 80 kWh LR

~€43,000 – 48,000

Before subsidies. The Long Range version will command a higher price.

Greece Subsidy: Through the "Kinoume Ilektrika 3″ program, you are entitled to a subsidy of up to €8,400 (individuals). Combined with full road tax exemption (Law 4710/2020) and low insurance premiums, the effective price is significantly reduced.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Stunning KODO design
  • RWD, 50:50, Jinba-Ittai driving
  • 5★ Euro NCAP + 9 airbags
  • LFP battery: 200 kW DC, 100% charge without degradation
  • Rich equipment (50″ AR-HUD, Sony, etc.)
  • Expected competitive price
  • European-calibrated suspension/steering
  • 70-liter frunk

Cons

  • Trunk only 330 L (small for D-segment)
  • NMC 80 kWh: only 95 kW DC — slow charging
  • No AWD option available
  • Manufactured in China (Nanjing)
  • New model — no reliability track record
  • No physical climate control buttons
  • Weak China sales (3,462 in 2024)

Final Verdict

The Mazda 6e is an extremely attractive proposition for those seeking a premium electric sedan without the German price tag. The KODO design is top-notch, the rear-wheel drive with 50:50 distribution promises sporty handling, and the LFP battery offers fast 200 kW charging without worrying about longevity.

If Mazda prices the 6e right in Greece — and the signs point to a competitive price — it will be a game-changer in the electric sedan segment. The only reservations: the slow NMC Long Range charging and the small cargo space. Otherwise, Mazda reminds us why it's a cult brand: design, driving, feel.
